DO YOU THINK THAT THE DEATH PENALTY IS RIGHT?

i think that the death penalt y is wrong because law enforcement does not have the right to take away someone's life, no matter what the crime was. i can see how victim's families would disagree with me but it is still wrong either way you look at it.

  1. Well, I think this is a topic where you can argue both sides and not really get a solid persuasive answer of whether it is right or wrong... similar to abortion. I personally am in the middle. I mean, it is morally wrong to kill someone, but then again, if that person is a threat to the community and can harm millions of other people, this might sound bad, but I think it would be okay.(kind of like a sacrifice, kill one, save millions, kind of thing.)

  2. I think the death penalty in some cases is the thing to do. If that person had no regard for the person(s) life they have killed, why do they deserve to live the rest of their life? They killed an innocent person, so why is it ok for them to just live out their life in a prison cell? The death penalty I believe has to be thrown out in some cases such as manslaughter where it was an accident. Other cases such as first degree murder and depending on the severity of the murder, that is where the death penalty needs to be an option.

  3. In my point of view, I think it is wrong to have a death penalty. It's unethical to take one's life away because he or she committed a crime. That criminal can be in prison for life without parole and I think that's fine enough. But I mean that's just me. Maybe if I experienced a situation where all I wanted for that criminal is to die, then I might change my mind.

  4. I believe the death penalty is unjust. No one has the right to take the life of anyone, guilty or innocent. Every person should have the opportunity to live. If the crime weighed more than the criminal's life, then they should rot in jail for the rest of their life, regretting every moment of their wrong doing.

Citizens do not have the right to choose who gets to live and who doesn't. The government especially doesn't have that privilege. This philosophy also ties into the right of abortion. Who in this world could decide the fate of a person's life? Who is superior enough to make that decision for another person? Do citizens have the authority to dictate another's right of life? Does the government? Do our own mothers?

  5. I don’t believe the death penalty is a suitable punishment in any case. Though the death penalty, as mentioned in other blogs, may provide closure for a murder victim’s family, it seems hypocritical to take away someone else’s life in return. I guess this idea goes back to the argument, that taking someone else’s life (though he or she seems to deserve it) is no better than stopping to that criminal’s level. Leaving the criminal to stay in jail for the remainder of his or her life is the best possible punishment for extremely heinous crimes. After all, when criminals perform their actions (of their free will) a majority of them know that death will be their punishment, so they have nothing else to lose. If you think about it, the people who murdered several people in recent years have resulted in shooting themselves after. But if the courts sentenced them to life in prison, without parole, the criminals would have to suffer a fate, arguably worse than death…living for the rest of his or life with the guilt.

  6. I think the death penalty is a fair because people who commit the crimes to receive the death penalty deserve it. Why should we put them in jail for the rest of their lives while tax payers have to pay to sustain their lives. This costs more money and it is like the taxpayers are being punished for the crimes that the criminal has done. I think the death penalty should be changed a bit so that it is only given to more dreadful crimes.

  7. I don't think that the death penalty is right but I don't think that it's wrong either. I believe that it depends on the circumstance.
Many times I believe that the death penalty is wrong because killing the killer is just as bad as the killer killing the victim. So the act is not justify. I think that they (the criminal) should be in (prison) for life without parole. This can show them that what they have done is wrong.
Other times I think that the death penalty can be used, in certain circumstances. For example, if there was a mass murder threatening to or do kill hundreds (or thousands), then I think that the death penalty could be used. It goes along with what Vanessa said: sacrifice one to save millions (sorry to those that don't agree and if it sounds bad).

  8. My opinion about the death panalty is that is wrong, because only God has the right to tqake live away not human beings. The law can be cruel and unfrair. Death penalty should be stop because it dosent help the economy, but also hurts the love ones. My opinion is that if you do a crime you do time.

  9. I definitely believe in the death penalty. If someone commits a serious enough crime, they deserve to be punished. Especially in the case of murder or something like that. The person committing those types of crime do not even deserve to live.

  10. I fully support the death penalty. If a man rapes and kills a little girl, why should he get to live in a prison that may supply him with meals, visits, gyms, recreation hours and life? Why do some people have as much sympathy for criminals as they do for the victims? Capital punishment isn't taking the life of a human, it's stopping the heart of a monster. Punishment should fit the crime - a life for a life. That's justice. Besides, if we put them in jail, they can find means to get out, on good behavior or bail, or they can escape and then they can kill again.

  11. The death penalty is just only if its for the right reason. Obviously it depends on what the criminal did to deserve the punishment. I believe if the death penalty couldn't be enforced that the criminals would keep continuing their violent acts. Since they know they can only end up in prison.
