What are your opinions on magical realism blogs? Do you find them helpful and interesting? How much time do you spend thinking of your responses? Do you come back to read other students' answers every couple of hours? Would you recommend them to a friend?
I like magical realism blogs. I find them interesting because I can see everyone's opinions on the topic and see how they feel about it. I don't really know how much time i spend thinking of my responses, I just write until i feel like i typed what i needed to say. I don't read other students answeres every couple of hours but sometimes i read the peoples blogs before mine. I don't know if i would recommend them to a friend but i would recommend them to another teacher because I think they are cool because they are very different than just typing out an assignment and turning it in the next day. What do you think?
ReplyDeleteHonestly I like the blogs. Here I can freely express what I have to say. Unlike in discussions I don't feel as discouraged by my peers. Also, it gives me time to think about what I have to say. After reading a few other comments from everyone else, I can say that it really does help a lot. What others say can affect what I have to say as well. Their words always gets me thinking and thinking. It gives me a better insight on the topic being discussed. I don't spend much time probably around 10 minutes. No i don't come back to read other students' answers. And yes I would recommend them to a friend.

ReplyDeleteI think the blogs are a good idea for the students that can't or don't know how to express their opinions in class. However, it does take a very organized person to remember to do them every week, especially if they happen to be very busy with other matters of importance. Some reponses are pretty interesting to read and can help, depending on the topic. I think the best part about the blog, for me, is that I have time to think about my answer. I'm also not sure how long it takes me to type a reponse. Depends I guess. Truthfully, sometimes I'll check the blog once or twice during the week, but most of the time, once Sunday passes, I don't check until I need to blog again. I probably would only recommend blogs to friends who have something to say daily, but magical realism blogs should probably stay within the class because we are the ones studying it.

ReplyDeleteI am completely supportive of the entire "online classroom" that technology in this age has allowed us. However, in my opinion the entire blogging experience has been unsatisfactory and has room for improvement. I check periodically, but never contribute to posts until required on Sunday night. I believe that there really are no true discussions occurring within the blog. Most students either post a question or answer one with little or no thought to their own opinions, often merely "agreeing" with the post above them. I admit to doing so as well. No one is actually discussing with each other. There are also some people I have never heard from. I am not trying to criticize or insult the intellect of this class, but it would be nice to see a little conversation going, not just repeats of the same answer to the same question. The blogs could be improved with more organization such as sections for each week of blogging in order to keep track of the discussions. For those taking Mrs. Kayser's class, remember how we did the Congress simulation? That was really easy to follow, knowing how and where to post. Another suggestion would be to bring some of the blog back into the classroom open to everyone, not limited to one or a few students.
ReplyDeleteI believe they are good because we get to hear everyone's opinions about a certain topic. It is great when you can say your points on a topic and no one will interupt me by disagreeing. If technology lets us do this then we shoull take advantage of it. I don't check the blog everyday but I check it weekly. I sometimes do look at what other people have to say about a question and where they stand. I spend about 15 minutes thinking on what I am going say. I just type my thoughts out it is very easy.
ReplyDeleteI feel that blogs are helpful but are really hard to remember to comment them because the website is difficult to manage. I like to read others opinions because sometimes the questions are difficult to answer and maybe someones opinion can give me that though I was looking for. I spend about 10 minutes going over the blogs and commenting them.
ReplyDeleteI think that these blogs are quite interesting. Here we can talk about anything as a class even outside of the classroom. I also think it is interesting because then we get to really say what we mean by thinking our answer thoroughly. Some people might also be shy to voice their opinions out loud and prefer writing them instead. I dont necessarily come back on to check the topics every couple of hours. I usually check like once a day or every other day. Sometimes i do tend to forget about the blog, since it is hard to keep tabs. It all matters i guess on the person as to whether or not they will like it.
ReplyDeleteLook at the list of people participating. In class some of them rarely give us contributions. Online they feel no pressure and join in the discussions.
ReplyDeleteDo I wish I did not have to "force" students to participate...absolutely...however, doing so provides an incentive for all to participate writing more than "I agree with what she said."
Although I hope that in my classroom you all feel safe to express yourselves, some students are more reserved than others. I feel that the blog provides them a theater where they can express themselves safely.
Mr Beeche
I really like this post. I seem to enjoy reading Alyssa post the best. They are often opposite of what I see and make me think how would she ever think of this. I do like to look at other people's opinions to see the similarities and differences of what I think compared to others. i do like blogs instead of turning in work and knowing no one else will see your work except Mr. Beeche
ReplyDeleteI honestly dont have a strong opinion about theses magical realism blogs. It just seems hard to try and keep up with it every week. Although I have not been participating in many of the blogs i plan to change that and i do agree with some people that it is definitely much easier than turning in written work at school. the only negative aspect that I have of it is that its just difficult to keep up with it every week since its such an easy and small thing to do that I tend to put it off until I forget about it. But yes, I do feel that it is much easier than turning in daily written assignements.
ReplyDeleteEven though I haven't contributed much to the blog, I still find it useful and helpful. I think it gives us a chance to think about what we want to say, if we find it hard to express what we want to in class. Also, seeing other people's opinions and views on certain subjects helps you develop a bigger perspective.
ReplyDeleteI think that the blogs are good but are hard to keep up with. Personally it is hard for me to remember to do the blog because I get distracted when I am using the computer. I think the blogs are helpful because it allows for people to express how they feel and talk more about issues that we all want to talk about. We have limited time in class for discussions and by using the blog we are allowed more time to express our ideas and our feelings. I usually spend about 10 minutes on each of my blogs thinking and writing. I would recommend this to a friend because it is a good way for people to express how they feel.
