Day of Silence- 04/17/2009

So today is the Day of Silence, which is a student-led day of action were those who support making anti-Lesbian Gay Bi Transgender bullying and harassment unacceptable in school. It's a day where students are silent the whole day to symbolically represent the silencing of LGBT students.

  • -What is your opinion about the Day of Silence? Do you think it is effective?
  • -Would you be able to participate in this day of silence to prove a point? Would you think kids at our school will participate in this?
  • -Have you ever even heard of this before? If not, what are your feelings about students doing such a thing?

  2. I think the Day of Silence has a great impact on other people. I believe that when a community can gather together and do something with everyone it shows a strong point. I would be able to participate in this day of silence to support this cause. I think many people in our school would also participate in this but not everyone. Some students do not take these things seriously. I have not heard of this before but I think it is a good idea to do this. I believe that this will raise more awareness for this issue and many people will think twice before they say something degrading towards a persons homosexuality.

  4. Yeah it is weird because I also have never heard of the day of silence until my friend told me about it. She told me how her school participates in it, and it truly sends a message to everyone. I think it is interesting how we are unaware of causes like this. I mean, the reason could be that we are from San Francisco, and homosexuals are accepted in our community. I just thought it would be interesting to see who else had heard of the Day of Silence.
