Do you think it was fair that they took away senior privleges?
I think they overreacted about the situation. With one month left to go, they should have at least gave us a warning. They also should have conidered only taking away privleges from those who weren't at school. What do you guys think?
i do not think that it is fair that our senior privelages were taken away because i think that they over reacted. the only reasoon that it was such a big deal is because it was 4/20 and they assumed that we all missed school to smoke weed. in many cases this is probably not true and many people probably missed school because it was the first day back from spring break. in the long run id doesn't really matter because we've been wearing uniform since freshman year, so what's one more month going to hurt.
I was highly upset that our senior privelages were taken away. I understand the fact that they are punishing the seniors that decided to skip school but it was unfair to take the senior privelages away from all seniors. I think that they are just trying to scare all seniors so that we wont overly slack off, but I do hope that they reconsider their decision and give back our privelages.
i don't think it was fair at all. They could have given us a warning before they took it away. I doubt they would have checked out grades if most of us showed up to school on 420 but too many seniors were gone that day. If they want to punish us it should be on an individual basis not our class as a whole.
I believe it it was completely unjust for them to take away all of our senior privileges. First of all, instead of punishing the students who actually came to school, they should have targeted the ones who actually skipped. Not only this, but they should have also taken into account that many seniors were also gone from school due to athletics or vacation. Though their punishment may have been just, applying it to the whole senior class made it an injustice, punishing the innocent along with the guilty.
What the administration did not take into account when announcing the vast amount of seniors failing, is that the Powerschool system is flawed. Many teachers do not upgrade their grade-books. One teacher, for example, puts in zeros until the work is turned it. Because the due date of all of the work isn't until the test, which could be a month or so later, it seems as if the students who haven't turned their work in are failing. Thus, although it is extremely plausible that so many Seniors are failing, the administration had failed to take into account all of the variables.
No way it is not fair that our senior priviliges. Only the students who skipped shcool should have been punished. Some students were probably on vacation or had a good reason for skipping but the students who came to school didn't do anything. We got our senior priviliges taken away for doing what we are supposed to do. That makes no sense to me and is vary unfair.
i don't believe that this was a great decision by the administration. It isn't fair for the rest of the seniors that did go to school. They should have just punished the people who didn't go to school though it is a judgment call to believe that people didn't show up because it was 4/20. It was the day after vacation and many people still are returning from their trip. I blieve they should give privileges back to the seniors at least to the people who were at school.
I agree with all of you. Taking away senior privileges was not the right thing to do to everyone. Only those who weren't at school and didn't have a legit reason should be punished. Why should students who show up to class be punished for doing the right thing? I can see if they didn't have a list of those who did skip, but they do.
Taking away senior privileges was annoying. I agree that they shouldn't have taken them away from the people that were actually at school on that day. Also, not everybody that missed school that day skipped just because it was supposed to be a ditch day or just because it was 4/20. A lot of them had a good reason like vacations, and actually being sick.
I believe it was unfair that our senior privileges were taken away. I personally was not even at school for a reason. And we all had to be punished for it. We only have a little bit of time left here and we should get our privileges back. We've been wearing khakis and polos for four years now; we should get a break from it. I think they overreacted. The other thing that seemed annoying was the fact that people received 0's. Missing one day of school equals an F in a assignment. I mean sure there should be a little punishment, but when it affects grades, that's too far. I mean c'mon give us a break.
I agree with everyone here... but OK. granted, after they took away the privileges, it sent a message to us that if one person screws up.. we all screw up. BUT that was lame of them to take it away... especially how we only have one month of school left. So they say its because everyone "ditched", but technically, they don't even have proof. I mean.. since some parents helped their kids skipped school, and some other kids were really sick or on vacation, they shouldn't have taken the privileges away. I agree how power school is rarely even updated by teachers, so that wasn't fair how we were also punished by "having low scores". We are kids, they are making such a big deal out of this. I mean seriously people, just because you took away privileges you think that will actually send a message to students hoping they will change?! uh. I don't think so buddy... it just makes us seniors mad and rebel even more. Its really annoying how students who came to school are punished.
it is not fair at all! If anything the only people who should be punished should be the ones who ditched school that day. It is ridiculous that everyone is being punished for the actions of others. It is totally not fair for the kids who actually came to school that day and who don't have Ds or Fs. The administration is completely overreacting.
I agree with Vanessa’s point that our school stresses the importance of community and how when one person is at fault, we are all at fault. And to make the school not seem completely like a monster, they did warn us to not start slacking to the point of failing. BUT what they did was still extremely unfair to the seniors. Had the entire class “skipped” on 4/20 and purposely failed their classes, then the punishment would be fair. However, not even half of the senior class was absent that day, and all those who weren’t in class didn’t skip. Some were actually on trips. And those who actually came to school get punished for that too? As for the failing grades, the school needs to consider each teacher’s method of grading (as Nicole has mentioned). I know from experience that some teachers don’t even have a lot to base the quarter grade as of so far. Furthermore, I don’t see how taking away the privileges would encourage the seniors to change. Sure, this punishment showed is the school is serious; but it doesn’t promote said change. How does the school expect the seniors who are failing to bring their grades up if they don’t have much to look forward to anyway? Although I agree with the importance of maintaining grades and punishment for disobeying school rules, the school definitely acted foolishly this time.
I don't think it is fair that we lost our senior priviledges. I was not here on 4/20 because I was in the east coast visiting colleges and when I returned, I was accused of missing school to smoke weed. It sucks that we all the seniors lost their privledges because of this incident and bad grades. Honestly however, i think people are still going to have senioritis even when our priviledges have been taken away.
It wont make a difference. physical clothes wont change our mental thinking. everyone is taking the free ride home now. School has come to a lot of seniors mind as last priority because of their acceptance. priveleges are earned and they had the right to take it from us, it a good incentive to shape up. i doubt itd make a difference. but hey. im trying.
I think it was a bad idea for the administration to take away our senior privileges and threaten to suspend 70 students. If the administration wanted to suspend 70 students and put it on their college transcripts it would make the school look bad for them. It would raise a lot of flags in colleges to see 70 students from SHCP being expelled for missing one day of school. I think that they should have given us the day off on that Monday so no one would have to miss school for any reason.
What's the point of following the rules if those who abide them get punished alongside those who break them? A minority of students skipped school, yet the entire senior class has to suffer the consequences? That conclusion is ridiculously flawed.Students skip school all the time. It is really their choice if they want to miss that day's classes; it only hurts them in the end. As long as they don't exceed the allotted amount of absences permitted and have the permission of their parents it's not the worst thing someone can do. And if people miss school all together, I fail to see why it's so harmful when ONE day will not made all the difference. Now, about grades, many teachers don't use PowerSchool in the most efficient way. Some don't update the website, some input zeros instead of missing when there's still time to turn in the assignments, and some teachers have so few assignments that one missing homework greatly brings the grade down. If teachers fixed their PowerSchools I guarantee there would be a significant decrease in the number of F's. Secondly, people want to graduate; they will bring their grades up in time. Yes, we have senioritis and it has left us really lazy, but not invalid. People are going to get up their grades, not because we lost privileges but because they want to get out of high school.
However, I do realize much of the blame should be aimed at the ditchers for inciting the overreaction of the SHCP administration.
To be honest I think taking them away was the right thing to do. When *0 kids decide to skip school it affects the teachers as well as the students. With just a few weeks of school left teacheers need these days to teach before finals. It was a mistake to ditch but I thought was kinda funny. I know alot of seniors are slcking in grades and it is our job to fix them. I hope and think they will give them back in the next couple of days. I dont think seniors would have ditched if it wasn't 4/20 just my opinion could be wrong
Taking away senior privileges would be the correct reaction on their side to finding that there are 100+ F grades nearly less than a month of school. However, I believe that they should have looked at this issue on an individual basis, as there are still many students maintaining their grades as usual. Perhaps this strategy was a means to get students to coerce others into doing well. But, I still feel that number of students did not deserve to get their privileges taken away.
Frankly, I believe that there are 300+ F/D grades among the Senior class as of last Monday, fueled the Administration's decision. I believe Idabelle's thoughts are more in agreement with what really took place.
I beilved that it was fair in a part because that way they would give us a wake up call, but for some of us it was not fair because we work hard. I really hope that this wake up call gives all of us a way of shaping up and suport each other.
I wasnt surprised that they took our privaleges away because they always take the fun of things for those that followed the rules. Even one slip up they get on our case. I could understand if people missed a whole week but honestly one day! With less than a month ago maybe they'll be gracious enough to let us have our privaleges back. Who knows.
