The Swine Flu

So, recently in the news there has been a lot of talk about the Swine Flu. I was reading an article about it and whether or not it will turn into an epidemic - basically it said that it is too soon to tell. Personally, I am not very worried about it because it does not seem like the kind of thing I could contract but I was wondering what everyone else thinks about it? Do you think it is going to turn into an even bigger deal?

  1. I am not worried but concerned because thre has be no reports of the swine flu in san francisco. I hope it doesn't turn to something big that thousands of people die. I just hope that it doesn't affect many people especially the close ones to me like my family. I believe we will find a dose of it pretty soon so we can avoid it. The world can learn from this though. Instead of letting it get let this we should prevent it to become an epidemic.

  2. I think that if less people travel, it will be less likely to spread. But I think that if it ever turns into something big, it will be something like the bird flu.. where it was huge for few months or so, and then dies down. I just think that half of the reason why some people are making a big deal out of this is because of the media and how they are making it sound like its the Cholera disease or something.

  3. I think that the most that we can do is to be mindful of ourselves and our health. Other than that, there is no reason to start panicking and being overly paranoid. If we take things in stride, we will be better equipped to handle the swine flu if it were to turn into an epidemic. Thus, I believe that if we were to take preventative measures, it could keep the swine flu from spreading.

  4. optimistically, i hope that the swine flu is just a blown up media event, but if we can go into a second depression, its possible to have an epidemic disease.

  5. Honestly, i'm really not sure because i mean the outbreak just begun. We never know what's going to happen next. Also, its spreading pretty quickly. One of my friends told me that it doesn't have a cure, but i'm not sure if he's correct. That did scare me a little bit though. The flu is already in the bay area. Hopefully this won't end up as a great epidemic and it will end soon.

  6. I wasn't so worried about it until I heard that it spread to the bay area, in Marin I think? I'm still not sure whether or not it will become epidemic, but I think that the media really is hyping it up to be even bigger than it really is. I'm not sure though.

  7. I'm not really sure if it would become an epidemic. If it does, how dangerous could it be? If 36,000 people in the United States die of the usual flu, why should we be so scared of this type of flu. Honestly, I'm not really certain how much worse the Swine Flu is compared to the average flu.

  8. I didn’t think about the swine flu until I found out that there was a case of swine flu in San Francisco. Though many people are not worried about contracting swine flu, it is definitely important to do what they can to protect themselves nonetheless. Though the swine flu is not a big deal to us, I can’t help but think that we feel that way because most of us already have the financial means to take care of ourselves while many in Mexico may not.

  9. I'm not to worried about swine flu. I mean yes you can catch it and get sick and some can possibly die from it. But over 30,000 people die from the regular flu every year. So why is it that this flu (swine) scares so many people? Is it because there is no vaccine for it? Whatever the reason is, I don't think that this swine flu is that big of a deal, as long as people take care of themselves.

  10. This H1N1 virus is pretty scary. The last occurence happened in Sacramento which is not to far from us. Because of this new flu that has not been able to be treated, I am worried about people having this disease and spreading it.

  11. I think its best if people remain wary, but not panicked. I don't believe it should be ignored, but i don't think its worth all the hype that everyone is chalking it up to be. Also, everyone should become informed on the subject before passing on the hysteria.

  12. lol Alyssa, lol. :D

Rebecca, it's in San Francisco...? EVERYONE PANIC!!! WE ARE ALL GOING TO DIE!! DON'T EAT PORK; NOBODY EVEN LOOK AT PIGS. IT"LL GIVE YOU SWINE FLU! Oh, my gosh, now you're thinking about pigs...YOU HAVE SWINE FLU!

Well, here's the lesson to be learned: Never trust everything people tell you. It'll give you swine flu.

  13. I think that people are just over reacting about the swine flu because it is just as deadly as any other flu. People catch the regular flu from other people everyday. I think that there has just been mass hysteria put out by the media causing everyone to become afraid of the swine flu. I think this is going to become a bigger issue but it is not something that I am very worried about. I don't think that we can live our lives scared of something that is very common.

  14. I feel that right now its not going to be a big deal because every country is trying to find a cure and they are working together. I feel that some coubntries are being over reacted due to they are not admitting anyone that comes from Mexico. Instead of discriminated people should be more infrom of the disseas.

  15. the swine flu has been all over the news and is kidn of scary. health officials are saying that this could turn into an epidemic and they are taking precautions to keep the flu from spreading. i always thought that something like this would never happen in the United States, but now its happening. i hope that the only reason the flu was so deadly in Mexico is becasue they have poor health care. hopefully we have the technology and power to control the swine flu in the United States and can come up with a vaccine in time.

  16. The swine flu is much like sars where many people feared it but only few got it. Sure it will effect travels of many people. Many garduates will kip there trip to Mexico beacuse of this trip. I think in the next month or two it will grow but die down as summer ends

  17. The swine flu has become such a big deal, but honestly i am not worried about it. Unless someone at our school or community was contaminated, i don't see the need to be worried. I agree with timmy, it seems like a big deal, but the fuss will eventually die down.
